BLG appoints new partner to lead its Shanghai office

Date: Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Barlow Lyde & Gilbert LLP ("BLG”) has announced the appointment of Brinton Scott to lead its Shanghai office and drive the future development of its China Practice.

Brinton will be based in BLG’s Shanghai office. His appointment further reinforces BLG’s commitment to China and follows the recent appointment of David Smyth as the firm’s new Managing Partner for Hong Kong and China.

Brinton has worked in China for the past 12 years. He has extensive experience in advising Fortune 500 and large private multinational corporations in foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions, reorganisations, joint ventures, employment, intellectual property and technology and licensing. Brinton has worked in an array of sectors including insurance, aerospace, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, publishing, automotive, media and entertainment.

David Smyth said: “We are delighted to welcome Brinton to the Asia team. His core strengths are well aligned with those of the firm and the areas we are looking to develop. Brinton will play an invaluable role in the firm’s future strategy and growth in China.”

Brinton Scott said: “BLG has been assisting clients in Hong Kong and China for over 20 years. The firm has an excellent reputation and culture, and a quality client base. Its contentious practice in the region is second to none. BLG’s commitment to the development and strengthening of its practice in China and across Asia is a huge draw, and this is a very exciting opportunity.”

BLG senior partner Simon Konsta said: “Brinton’s appointment is another significant step in BLG’s international strategy to develop the full potential of our team in China and across Asia. We will continue to focus on our Asia investment and to build on the team’s core strengths to ensure we continue to provide the best service to our clients.”
