Now based in Singapore, Mert is Managing
Partner of the office and oversees the activities of the Asia
Aerospace team. The team currently comprises 10 lawyers, based in
both Singapore and Hong Kong, and is the largest aviation liability
team in the region. Mert trained at BLG before joining the
aerospace department in 1997.
Mert handles a wide variety of commercial
litigation and insurance matters in various jurisdictions,
including air carrier’s and airport’s liability, aviation product
liability and coverage disputes.
Mert also regularly advises aviation entities
on non-contentious issues such as contractual wordings including
terms and conditions of carriage, risk management and regulatory
matters.
He is handling, on behalf of Reinsurers, a
number of high profile multi-jurisdictional disputes and major
accidents including the Zest Airways loss in the Philippines in
January 2009, the Atlasjet loss in Turkey in November 2007, the
Flash Airlines loss in Egypt in 2004, the Turkish Airlines loss in
Diyarbakir in 2003, and the Air China loss in Pusan in 2002.
Mert is recommended by Chambers and other
leading legal and aerospace publications as a leader in his
field.
